Behind the stories – award-winning companies

The award-winning companies shared their innovation and success at the Award-Winning Products Presentation yesterday (9 Jan) with other industry fellows.

Let’s hear the judges’ comments

“Some entries for the Stationery Award stand out in functionality while others make their mark in innovation. Marketability is also an important factor to note. In my view, quality always comes first. Functionality, design and price are also essential.”
Mr Eva C H Lee, Product Manager – Gift & Stationery, Popular Book Co Ltd

“Stationery products with good design should be functional and appealing in its outlook. In order to stand out in the market, designers have to establish their own styles rather than following the footsteps of others.”
Mr Benedict Leung, Designer, La Jeunesse

“We’ve found the incorporation of more DIY elements in some of the products vying for the Stationery Award. This is an ongoing trend. Today, consumers are looking for products that can give the ‘wow’ effect and inspire them.”
Mr Patrick Ng, Senior Buyer, Stationery & Moving Departments, City Super Ltd

“We are a stationery e-tailer targeting corporate clients in India. This is our first visit. The scale of the fair is satisfactory and it offers a wide range of products. We saw some quality exhibitors and we met about 6 exhibitors from Thailand, India, Taiwan and the Chinese mainland. We have lined up a number of business meetings. Attending fairs like this is important because it helps us to source products globally. Expanding the scope of international sourcing will make us become more competitive by offering the Indian customers a wider range of products from across the world.”
Mr Deepak Batra, Director and Co-Founder, 1Click1Call.com, India

“I am a first-time visitor. We are a stationery, toys, books and gifts retailer in Turkey and we are one of the 18 companies under a group. We have 138 shops in Turkey and 17 shops abroad in Albania, Iraq and Central Asia. We import directly from the Chinese mainland and the UK before. I have met at least 50 quality exhibitors already and I looked at items like magic cube, desk organisers and small soft balls, etc.. I plan to place some orders and one of them will be about 180,000 pieces of Rubik’s Cube. The fair offers new products, design, innovation and competitive prices and the overall experience is fantastic. Three days seem like too short as there is a lot to see. I will definitely come back next year.”
Mr Mustafa Ocal, Import & Export Executive, NT AS, Turkey

“We are one of the leading players in Poland. We have our own brand TOMA and we cooperate with some international stationery companies as their exclusive importers and distributors in Poland. We have around 40 suppliers and 75% of them are from the Chinese mainland while the rest are from Japan, India and Switzerland. It is my first time to the fair. It is a well-organised and growing fair. I am looking for fountain pens because there is a trend for finer writing instruments in Poland now. We visit stationery fairs worldwide to discover new products and this fair contributes useful information to our research on market trend.”
Mr Wojciech Jr. Tomaszewski, Export Manager, TOMA Sp. z.o.o., Poland

“We are a first-time exhibitor at this fair and we display shoelaces and USBs. I am glad to meet potential customers from Norway, Denmark, Switzerland, Germany, Singapore, South Africa, Brazil and Chile, who are buyers from all over the world. The result is successful and we are 100% satisfied. The upcoming trend for gifts would be items made with silicon. Silicon products are hot and they can be made into different sharp colours, being environmental friendly and non-hazardous to health. Silicon products are usually beautifully designed and highly functional.”
Mr Tom Choi, Marketing Director, Jisung Inc, Korea (Booth: 5B-F40)

“We have been a long-term exhibitor of the Hong Kong International Stationery Fair for almost 10 years. We hope to meet distributors and importers here. I spoke to many visitors and some of them are our potential customers. Besides promoting our children clay products and meeting potential clients, we also learn about the trends and latest development of stationery products here. Getting to know the newest materials and accessories available in the market will better equip us to expand our business in Europe.”
Ms Sirisopar Chairwcharoen, Export Sales Manager, Nara Factory Co., Ltd., Thailand (Booth: 5B-E02)
