Insights Sharing

A symposium on “Stationery Design and Product Packaging Vogue 2014” was held on 6 Jan 2014.

During the symposium, Mr Stephen Barry, Managing Director, Stepworks shared how to make its stationery brand to stay true to one's brand DNA rather than following trends has paradoxically helped the brand stay ahead of the trend curve.
Mr Ron Leung, Honorary Secretary, Industrial Designers Society of Hong Kong delivered the speech from the point of view as a creative consultant, and elaborated how innovation and design can make a difference for stationery product developers with some of his practical and successful cases.
Ms Wendy Lau, Project Manager, SDWorks, School of Design, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University introduced that SDWorks is a platform assisting students from School of Design at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Having a German exchange student as the designer, she shared the successful cases that one of SDWorks’s first project collaborated with the Hong Kong International Airport, the Holy Trinity Church and some other organizations for customised souvenirs.

Hear What Exhibitors Say

“We are a stationery and accessories importer, exporter and manufacturer. This is our ninth year at the Hong Kong International Stationery Fair and this is a very important show for us to meet a large amount of serious buyers from across the world. Additionally, we are particularly like the exhibition date as this is a good time for business planning as we can meet with the back-to-school orders from our potential clients. For this year’s show, we featured a new Angry Birds backpack line, cell phone cases as well as party themed stationery. I think the stationery trend in the future is positive. With the rise of the Chinese middle class, an increased amount of people are willing to pay a higher premium for product safety, hence we expect to have increased repeated orders throughout the year. At the 2014 show, we hope to re-connect with old customers and establish new business leads from Europe, Latin America as well as South East Asia.”
Scott Wen, Representative, Mirage International Industries Inc., the US (Booth: 5B-C02)

“We are a pen designing company and this is our first year exhibiting at the Hong Kong International Stationery fair. Our main featured product this year is the humming bird pen. The pen itself is shaped as a humming bird and can be attached onto vertical surfaces. Paired with sharp colors and dynamic design, we hope to market our products as happy and cheerful stationery items that can also be used as gifts. We predict that functionality and dynamic designs will serve as the key trends for future stationery products. Today, buyers with significant purchasing power from the Middle East, Australia and Hong Kong have showed great levels of interest in our product. Additionally, clients from the Asia Pacific regions appear to be the most encouraging. We will consider to exhibit at the show again with a bigger booth.”
Cynthia Foong, Sales, Richfield Corporation (HK) Ltd, Hong Kong (Booth: 5B-A05)

Hear What Buyers Say

“This is my first time to the show. I am looking for suppliers to help boost the sales to my company. I am looking for tables and cabinets and office items. We have collected pamphlets from suppliers quite close to our product range, or that can be used by the Singapore market. I think I will be ordering some light weight tables that are suitable for conferences and events. We are one of the market leaders in Singapore for extension stands with ropes. There are so many things to see at the show. I’ve not been to a stationery fair for a very long time and things have changed and I see many new things now. Here I can see the advancement of technology. It’s an eye opener. Under one roof here it provides everything which can be seen for two or three days.”

Alvin Choo, Managing Director, LTC Office Supplies Pte Ltd., Singapore

“This is the first time I’ve visited the Hong Kong International Stationery Fair. I came to the show because our company is looking for new products and new business cooperation. I am looking for stationery, toys and daily necessity products at the show, I will consider the quality, product features and prices. So far, I think the exhibitor quality and their products are good. I’ve seen many new and interesting products. I think there will be more Korean and cute style stationery items in the market because the Korean style is so popular now. Since stationery is a necessity to everyone, I would say that Asia Pacific’s stationery market will be expanding in the upcoming years, especially as the region’s economy is good. I will visit the show next year.”
Katie Lai, Artistic Designer, Pumpkin Creative Co Ltd, Taiwan
